Our body possesses at least 114 different chakras. Ki, Founder of The Healing Well and Shop Ki Meishon, is a Certified Energy Practitioner, a Certified Reiki Master, and Wellness Educator who calls our chakras “energy wheels.” Based in Atlanta, her practice provides preventative care and cure-based solutions, while her shop offers wellness products like crystals and candles.
Ki began her spiritual journey almost 6 years ago, pulling away from a Pentecostal upbringing in Los Angeles. “I just knew there was more than just toughing things out and holding it on your back.” She, then a recent divorcee and a single mother, suffered from anxiety and depression. “I could feel the traumas I had held in my body, from bloating to migraines. The issues are in the tissues.”
The Energy Expert’s first conscious awakening or, as she explains, “a rapid-fire advancement,” came while styling a client’s hair. “My life I live now, she told me. I had this emotional body response, and since that day, I’ve been able to read everybody and everything. So, you would call me psychic or intuitive.”
Her experience with channeling and mediumship has helped her accept her gift. “The additional upgrades and evolvements come easier for me. I know what’s going on.” Even her throat chakra, or Vishuddha, tenses to remind her that some things are better left unsaid.
Ki works with 12 chakras: the 7 mainstream chakras and 5 fewer discussed chakras like the soul star chakra or the seat of the soul. We asked her to share three of the most critical chakras and ways to keep them muthaf*ckas in check.
The Root Chakra
The base chakra. The root of all things. Connecting with your stability. It’s where you feel grounded. Family history resides here. When out of balance, the energy flowing through your body is unregulated and unstable which may cause anxiety. Connected to the adrenal system, it produces cortisol or the stress hormone.
How to keep it in check:
- Color: Red
- Foods: Onion, garlic, potatoes
- Fitness: Yoga; Sounds: Frequencies/tones, instruments
- Scents: Patchouli, cedarwood, juniper
The Heart Chakra
It is the center of our body. The way we feel, our compassion, our loving and giving sides of self. When out of balance, you may feel uneasy and don’t know why. Quick breaths may be a sign of stress or anxiety.
How to put in check:
- Color: Green
- Crystals: Rose quartz, jade, green aventurine
- Foods: Kale, spinach, green apples, kiwi
- Fitness: Breathwork
The Third Eye Chakra
The mind’s eye. Bird’s eye view. Intuition. When out of balance, we tend to overthink and our perception may be skewed or one-sided. Blockage to or overactivity of the third eye chakra may cause stress and anxiety. You are unable to rationalize and illogical thinking may occur. When in balance, the third eye chakra promotes open-mindedness.
How to put in in check:
- Color: Indigo
- Foods: Blackberries, blueberries, eggplant, purple cabbage
- Scent: Lavender, Frankincense, Ecualyptus
***Consume foods in a high-vibrational state, uncooked and raw (e.g. smoothies, salads, etc.).
